Stress means different things to different people. A situation that is intolerable to one person may be stimulating to another. What you feel is determined not just by events and changes in the outside world, but how you perceive and respond to them. The important point is that you can learn to recognise your own responses to stress and, if necessary, develop skills to deal with it.

As stress begins to take its toll physically, emotionally and on your behaviour, a variety of symptoms can result.

Remember that a little stress is good for the body and alerts the mind. However, the methods of coping with stress described during the course will enable you to deal more effectively with it.

 

Aims and objectives of the course


Aims

  • To become knowledgeable about the nature of stress
  • Be able to apply this knowledge to recognise stress in self and others.
  • To become knowledgeable about a multimodal approach and apply this to your own life.
  • To use relaxation skills as an integrative coping tool.
  • To develop an understanding of how our learning ability can be affected by the way we feel.
  • To recognise that these techniques can, with practice, become an automatic process (skill), part of everyday life.

Objectives

  • Define stress and understand how it differs from pressure.
  • Have a working understanding of modern models of stress.
  • Understand the psycho-physiology of stress.
  • Identify the main physical, psychological and behavioural symptoms of stress in self.
  • Recognise thinking errors and performance interfering thoughts.
  • Develop a range of techniques and strategies to tackle stress, to include:
    • Stability zones
    • Relaxation skills
    • Creative imagery
    • Diaphragmatic breathing
    • Rational and irrational thinking
    • Create your own stress management plan

All places must be paid in full no later than two weeks before the course starts.

Payment can be made by the following methods:

  • Cheque – made payable to Trevor Beech and sent to Trevor Beech, 229 Knowle Avenue, Knowle, FAREHAM, PO17 5DQ . When sending a cheque, please include your full name, address, contact number and email address for each person that you are booking a place for.
  • Cash – please DO NOT post cash. If you wish to pay by cash, please contact me to book your place and arrange payment.
  • Internet Banking – Please contact me if you wish to make a bank transfer.
  • Debit or Credit Card via Paypal.

Cancellation & Refunds

I may cancel the course should the numbers fail to reach a viable minimum. In this case, a transfer to an alternative date or a full refund will be made. I may cancel the course up to 14 days prior to the starting date.

If you wish to cancel your booking, you will receive a full refund providing you have cancelled no less than 14 days before the course is due to start. If you cancel less than 14 days prior to the starting date, no refund can be given for course fees paid.
